UFC 202: Diaz vs. McGregor 2 is just hours away on Saturday, and is set at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. One of the most anticipated rematches in the history of the UFC, the main event is one backed by a storyline filled with plenty of trash talk, threats and other animosity without even considering the big upset in the first fight.
UFC 202: Start time, TV schedule and fight card for McGregor vs. Diaz 2
UFC 202 is almost upon us. Will Conor McGregor get revenge on Nate Diaz?
Conor McGregor, 28, was becoming the UFC's golden boy for his prowess in the octagon and his skills on the microphone. McGregor is the UFC Featherweight Champion since he earned the interim belt after a TKO victory over Chad Mendes at UFC 189 and unified the title with a knockout victory over Jose Aldo at UFC 194 in December.
He was supposed to fight Rafael dos Anjos, the lightweight champion, but his opponent pulled out and instead he went up yet another weight class to make his welterweight debut against Nate Diaz at UFC 196. Diaz, a spotty performer known for strong jiu jitsu skills, sloppy brawling and an iron chin, was expected to lose to the more polished McGregor despite his size advantage.
That didn’t happen, and after peppering McGregor on the feet, Diaz took it to the ground and secured the second-round submission for the win. McGregor didn’t lose his belt as the fight was at welterweight, but he nonetheless demanded a rematch and the UFC was happy to acquiesce.
But there’s more to the card than that fight, with a hotly anticipated main card that will also see Anthony “Rumble” Johnson take on Glover Teixeira in a light heavyweight bout, and Rick Story face Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight contest.
