Holly Holm made her name by knocking out Ronda Rousey and essentially derailing the star’s career, but her reign as UFC bantamweight champion was short, ending in her next fight. Now she’s trying to get back in the win column at a new weight class, with Germaine de Randamie her opponent in the main event of UFC 208 on Saturday.
UFC 208: Start time, live TV schedule for Holm vs. de Randamie
Holly Holm will try and get her career back on track by winning the featherweight championship over Germaine de Randamie.
The event will be broadcast via pay-per-view beginning at 10 p.m. ET on Saturday. The event will have a preliminary card starting at 6:30 p.m. on UFC Fight Pass and continuing for free on Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. Live streaming options will be available via UFC.TV, the UFC YouTube channel, and various UFC apps on connected smart devices.
Holm has lost her last two fights since knocking out Rousey and setting the world on fire. But her two losses were to a wrestler who was able to keep her down in Miesha Tate, and a technical striker who was able to frustrate Holm with her defense in Valentina Shevchenko.
Basically, they were terrible matchups for her, and it’s no surprise she suffered her first two career losses. De Randamie is 6-3 as a pro and has won her last two fights, and she will be more than happy to stand with Holm. If her reach gives Holm troubles, then she could end up winning the title, but if Holm can handle it then she will likely be the UFC’s first-ever women’s featherweight champion.
In the co-main event, former middleweight champion Anderson Silva will take on Derek Brunson. Silva, 41, is still one of the best strikers in the sport, but he’s lost four of his last five fights, and hasn’t won since 2012. Silva has taken some questionable matchups in recent history, though none more baffling than his fight against Daniel Cormier.
Silva took that fight on days notice, and he was woefully overmatched from a size and strength perspective. This fight against Brunson is also on relatively short notice given fight camps usually go for multiple months. This fight has only been on the card for about a month.
Also in middleweight action will be Ronaldo Souza, who will face Tim Boetsch. At light heavyweight, Glover Teixeira will take on Jared Cannonier and opening the main card will be a lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Dustin Poirier.
