VIDEO: Shane Hmiel Crashes At Terre Haute

Fans all across the racing world are hoping Shane Hmiel makes a speedy recovery after a violent crash on Saturday during USAC Silver Crown qualifying in Indiana.

Hmiel, a former NASCAR driver who is trying to make a comeback from substance abuse in open-wheel racing, was qualifying at Terre Haute when his car turned on its side and crashed into the wall with the roll cage hitting first.

The son of Earnhardt Ganassi Racing competition director Steve Hmiel was airlifted to a local hospital, where he is awaiting surgery.

Here’s a report from SB Nation’s IndyCar blog on Hmiel’s current condition.

It goes without saying that we hope Hmiel can overcome his injuries from this terrible wreck. Below is the video, but we must warn you: It’s sickening to watch.
