Tributes Pour In For NASCAR’s Jim Hunter, Dead At 71

Longtime NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter, a leader and friend to many in the garage, passed away Friday evening at age 71, losing a battle with cancer.

↵Hunter was a familiar presence around the track and helped shape the careers of both drivers, public relations representatives and even some media.

↵Well-liked and quick with a smile – yet filled with B.S. in his role as a public relations spin-master – Hunter will be missed by everyone who knew him.

↵Here are some fitting tributes from writers who knew Hunter much longer than I did:

↵

Ed Hinton, ESPN.com: Old NASCAR lost its last giant

↵

Tom Jensen, Speed.com: So long to a legend

↵

Monte Dutton, Gaston Gazette: Impossible to dislike

↵Our thoughts are with not only Hunter’s family, but the community of his NASCAR friends who shared his company over the years.
