Why Is Tony Stewart So Well-Liked Among Fans?

For the past two seasons, Tony Stewart has consistently gotten some of the loudest cheers of any driver. In SB Nation’s “Gluckometer Ratings” that measure crowd noise in driver introductions, Stewart often ranks in the top three or four most-cheered drivers.

Though he’s always been greeted with a high volume of noise, the reception used to be about 50 percent cheers, 50 percent boos (and sometimes almost all boos, depending on any controversies).

But ever since he became a team owner, Stewart has been showered with cheers. We asked him to explain why he’s felt so much love from the fans recently.

“I’ve stayed true to who I am,” he said. “I’m honest, I speak what’s on my mind. I just don’t take crap from anybody. I’ve just always stayed who I am.

“I’ve never changed who I was, I’m never changed my views on things to be popular. I’ve just stayed the course, and I think people respect that stuff.”

That’s Stewart’s explanation. For those of you who are Stewart fans, do you agree? Why are you such a big fan of Stewart’s?
