Fire Sale: You Could Own The Infamous Car That Burned Dale Earnhardt Jr.

If you buy something from a link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

In the world of unusual race cars for sale, this one might be near the top.

↵The American LeMans Series Corvette that Dale Earnhardt Jr. crashed in 2004 – which then erupted in a terrifying fireball and left NASCAR’s most popular driver with slight burns – can be yours for the low, low price of only $595,000!

↵As observed by Becca Gladden, the Corvette is up for sale on eBay. You can click the “Buy it now” button and shell out nearly $600k for the car or make another offer.

↵The car, according to the sale description, has been fully restored after the Sonoma crash and is in raceable condition:

↵↵This is the same car Dale Jr wrecked at Infineon Raceway in 2004 and burst into flames, slightly injuring Dale Jr. This car is often referred to as the “meltdown car”. The car was fully rebuilt and restored by Pratt & Miller and is new and race ready.

↵↵That includes a new engine, sticker tires and the identical electronics and other parts it was raced with. Unfortunately, being a legit race car and all, you can’t go pick your kid up from school with it – the car isn’t street legal.

↵Earlier this year, Earnhardt Jr. recalled the fiery crash as being “really scary” but said it hadn’t affected his career. If you need a refresher, you can see Earnhardt Jr.‘s reflections and the video of the crash here.

↵Anyway, if you can’t think of a good Christmas gift, don’t say we didn’t try to help!
