No. 5: Brad Keselowski Explains ‘Kyle Busch Is An Ass’ Bristol Statement

Though the calendar has changed, it’s not too late to look back at last season. SB Nation is counting down its top 15 most-viewed NASCAR stories of 2010 during the first two weeks of January.

Brad Keselowski practically bounded down the driver introductions ramp at Bristol Motor Speedway, took the microphone and opened his mouth to offer one of the most crowd-pleasing quotes in NASCAR history.

“Kyle Busch is an ass!” he told the roughly 150,000 people in attendance.

The fans responded with a speedway-shaking roar that sounded like a mix of “YEAHHHHH!!!” and “WHOAAAAA!!!” There are several videos on YouTube taken from the stands, but this is one of our favorites.

Keselowski had been wrecked by Busch the previous night in the Nationwide race (Busch went on to sweep the weekend), so everyone understood he was still upset about the situation. And it just so happened that Bristol was experimenting with letting the drivers introduce themselves to the crowd, which set the stage for Keselowski’s remark.

SB Nation caught up with Keselowski after the race was over and asked him what exactly he was thinking and why he decided to make his statement.

“Juan Montoya and I were talking about it (before driver introductions), and he said I wouldn’t do it,” Keselowski said. “I said, ‘Hell yeah I’ll do it!’ The preacher was standing there and I said, ‘Hey man, would you be offended if I said, ‘Ass?’

“He said, ‘No, man! ‘Ass’ is in the Bible.’ I said, ‘Thank you very much!’”

The story about the incident and Keselowski’s explanation drew a ton of interest, ultimately ranking it as No. 5 on our most-clicked NASCAR stories of the year.
