Though the calendar has changed, it’s not too late to look back at last season. SB Nation is counting down its top 15 most-viewed NASCAR stories of 2010 during the first two weeks of January.
No. 3: Kyle Busch Gets Engaged To Samantha Sarcinella
Kurt Busch, older brother of the subject of this story, chided the NASCAR media several times this year for writing too many “People magazine” stories and not enough about the actual racing.
The elder Busch said he believed fans wanted to hear about the racing, and not about the he-said/she-said drama and off-track happenings.
As we’ve seen in this countdown, though, race fans want to read about both. And the People-type stories like this one, about Kurt’s younger brother’s engagement, are quite popular.
During Speedweeks last year, word started to trickle out that Kyle Busch had gotten engaged. So I texted Busch’s girlfriend, Samantha Sarcinella, to see if it was true.
For whatever reason, Sarcinella (now Mrs. Busch) has always been kind and friendly toward me despite the occasions when I haven’t written the nicest things about her now-husband.
She not only confirmed the engagement news, but invited me to the couple’s sparkling new motorhome to share the story, show off the ring and point out the exact spot where Busch proposed.
Though it was one of the first stories I wrote for SBNation.com, the account of the engagement got a ton of hits (click the red link to read it for yourself) and maintained its spot atop the countdown until August before settling down at No. 3.
