No. 12: NASCAR Drivers React To Portrayal In ‘South Park’ Episode
During the week before the October race at Southern California’s Auto Club Speedway, NASCAR got a dose of show business that left some people cringing.
The popular Comedy Central series South Park aired an episode titled, “Poor and Stupid.” It was about NASCAR.
In the days before it aired, some in the industry were predicting the worst. As it turned out, there was only one character in the show who tried to make NASCAR look bad; the majority of the episode actually portrayed NASCAR in a positive light.
The show’s creators even included references to drivers such as Danica Patrick (who was killed in the episode), Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson (who won the fictional race).
Fans were apparently curious as to what the drivers thought of their portrayal as cartoons, which led to this story ranking as the 12th-most-clicked of the year.
