Thanks to former point leader Tony Stewart’s bad day at Dover, the top nine drivers in the Sprint Cup Series point standings are now separated by just 19 points after three NASCAR Chase races.
NASCAR Point Standings: After Dover, Kevin Harvick Leads 2011 Chase For Sprint Cup
Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards are tied for the points lead heading into Kansas (though Harvick is technically the leader thanks to a tiebreaker on total wins), with Stewart and Dover winner Kurt Busch tied for third.
Though they’re not eliminated from the Chase, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin have all put themselves in big holes already.
Earnhardt Jr. and Newman can’t afford another mulligan, and Hamlin has said he’s already looking toward 2012.
Here are the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings after Dover:
- Kevin Harvick
- Carl Edwards -0 (loses tiebreaker to Harvick)
- Tony Stewart -9
- Kurt Busch -9 (loses tiebreaker to Stewart)
- Jimmie Johnson -13
- Brad Keselowski -14
- Matt Kenseth -14 (loses tiebreaker to Keselowski)
- Kyle Busch -15
- Jeff Gordon -19
- Dale Earnhardt Jr. -34
- Ryan Newman -41
