Jaromir Jagr Rumors Shot Down By Penguins GM Ray Shero

Last week, when Jaromir Jagr essentially eliminated the United States from the 2011 IIHF World Championships with a hat trick for the Czech Republic, the rumors had already started.

Jagr's contract in the KHL is over, and the Pittsburgh Penguins invited him to a golf outing -- a reunion for the 1991 Stanley Cup Champions.

Surely, this means Ray Shero and the Pens are going to sign Jagr to a contract, and our dreams of seeing Jagr and Sidney Crosby laughing next to each other on the bench before stepping onto the ice and kicking ass will come to fruition!

Well, that was a big leap, and Shero’s confirmed as much.

Via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

“We were able to get that invitation to him, and we’d like to acknowledge his involvement with the organization,” Shero said, adding that he has not spoken with Jagr’s agents. “That’s really all there was to it.”

He’s coming to a reunion (maybe, we don’t even know if he accepted). He’s not going to play for the Pittsburgh Penguins. At least, there’s no indication that it will happen. Maybe they get drunk at the golf outing and make a deal. I guess that could happen.
