Carl Edwards’ engine woes Sunday at Pocono Raceway allowed competitors Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to close within 10 points each of his Sprint Cup Series points lead.
NASCAR Point Standings Update: Carl Edwards’ Lead Shrinks At Pocono
Johnson (six points behind) and Earnhardt Jr. (10 back) led the way among the drivers threatening to knock Edwards from the top spot. Kevin Harvick (11 points behind) and Kyle Busch (-25) are also within one good race of possibly capturing the points lead.
There wasn’t much movement in the point standings overall – no driver gained or lost more than two spots – but race winner Jeff Gordon was among those who moved up multiple positions.
Gordon, Juan Pablo Montoya, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano and Regan Smith all moved up two spots apiece, while Greg Biffle, AJ Allmendinger, Marcos Ambrose and Jamie Murray all lost two positions each.
