Carl Edwards took the lead from Roush Fenway Racing teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. with eight laps remaining in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Michigan International Speedway, then held on to win his fourth race of the still-young season.
Michigan International Speedway NASCAR Nationwide Series Results: Carl Edwards Beats Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Stenhouse had looked to be in control for most of the race’s second half – he led 38 laps in all – but Edwards picked up ground and completed the pass as Stenhouse’s No. 6 car tightened up on the long green-flag run.
"I cannot drive any harder," Edwards said. "That was as hard as I could drive to get by him; he's going to be a force to be reckoned with."
Stenhouse became the new Nationwide Series points leader (by two points over Elliott Sadler), but was obviously disappointed to be denied of his second career win.
"Man, we just got too tight," Stenhouse said. "We thought we made enough adjustments for it."
Kyle Busch was third, Paul Menard was fourth and another Roush Fenway driver, Trevor Bayne, finished fifth.
