Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards don't act like the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points race for the year is tight.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Point Leaders Exchange Jokes Before Brickyard 400
As five-time defending champion Johnson sat fielding questions from the media during Friday's driver interviews at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Cup points leader Edwards stood behind a semi-circle of television cameras with his arms crossed.
Johnson answered questions on why he races in Nationwide events, his tweets and the track in Indianapolis. But Edwards was the one who asked the gutsy question.
How does it feel to run second in the points?
“It really sucks to be running second to be honest with you,” Johnson said with a laugh. “How does it feel to be leading the points?”
“Pretty great,” Edwards responded. “But, you should know that.”
It was an interaction that isn’t seen in other sports.
Honestly, could you picture Dirk Nowitzki asking LeBron James how it feels to be second in the NBA?
Yeahhhh...no.
But the joking between the two drivers didn’t end there. At Johnson’s request, Edwards waved into a camera – airing live images – before he walked up to the table and attempted to turn Johnson’s name tag upside down.
Just another day at the office.
