NASCAR 2012 Weather Forecast At Auto Club Speedway: Rain A Real Threat Sunday

NASCAR dodged the rain bullet last week at Bristol Motor Speedway, but I’m not sure that NASCAR will be able to do it two weeks in a row.

A Pacific storm system moving out of the Gulf of Alaska will arrive and spread rain across southern California on Sunday into Monday morning.

Rain arrives Sunday morning and will continue to be steady and light through the day and afternoon. This isn’t the hit-or-miss variety of showers you typically hear me talk about throughout the season. Rather, this will be a steady area of light rain – and the way things look, I don’t see any potential breaks that would allow for track drying and full racing once the rain arrives.

This has the strong potential of being a washout, in my professional opinion. I think the odds of actually seeing a race Sunday afternoon is currently around 10 percent. It is starting to appear this system begins to move out Monday morning.

The threat of rain greatly decreases through mid-to-late morning on Monday and should clear out by Monday afternoon, if NASCAR is forced to postpone Sunday’s scheduled Sprint Cup Series race.

As for the rest of the weekend, expect areas of patchy fog Friday and Saturday morning with just the slight chance of some drizzle Friday morning. The rest of the time the skies will be partly sunny and temperatures in the mid 60s.
