Vanilla Ice And NASCAR, Together At Last

Alright, stop! Collaborate and LISTEN: Vanilla Ice – yes, the Vanilla Ice – is going to be the honorary pace car driver at next weekend’s NASCAR Pocono 400 at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania.

If you thought NASCAR had a problem getting celebrities at races, yo, he’ll solve it. Well, maybe.

I mean, let’s be honest: Vanilla Ice at a NASCAR race would have been really cool about 20 years ago. Maybe 21. Now, the reaction is more like, “WOW! Vanilla Ice is still around!?”

Oh, but he is. In addition to the Vanilla Ice Project on the DIY network (Ice flips houses), the former rapper is going to appear in the upcoming Adam Sandler movie That’s My Boy. That’s not surprising, considering many Adam Sandler movies of late are horrible and it somehow makes sense an early-90s rap star would appear in a film like that.

But here’s the thing: Vanilla Ice did help bring rap into the mainstream – he was the first rapper to have a No. 1 single – and is certainly well-known by anyone born before 1985-ish. So personally, I’ll still try to catch a glimpse or snap a pic of the guy for nostalgia’s sake.

After all, this is the dude who rocked the mic like a vandal, lit up a stage and waxed a chump like a candle.

Ice, ice, baby.
