NASCAR Pocono Raceway 2012 Race Day Weather Forecast And Schedule

A passing shower or isolated storm is possible today for the Pocono 400 at Pocono Raceway. I don’t see a washout, but with a stalled boundary nearby, there is a shot we could see rain at some point before and during the race.

During the overnight, I was tracking clusters of showers moving along a stalled boundary that stretched from Buffalo, NY, through Watkins Glen, NY into northeastern Pennsylvania. With this boundary so close to the track, showers are possible this morning and later this afternoon.

Along with the possibility of showers, I expect periods where it is dry, with just a mix of clouds and sunshine. It will also be a little warmer as afternoon temperatures reach the mid to upper 70s.

With showers in the forecast you’re probably asking, “Mr. Weatherman, why can’t you just say, ‘Yes it will rain’ or ‘No it won’t?’ This is a complicated forecast. That stalled boundary over the region gives us an equal shot of getting a couple of showers today as well as being dry and rain free. I can tell you that if I was planning on going to the Pocono 400, and knowing the forecast, I would still go expecting to see racing.

With all that said, there could be potential delays if we have more rain this morning and possible yellow or red flags this afternoon depending on the kind of shower we get. Some of the showers that form around east-central and northeast Pennsylvania could have some pretty good downpours.
