Todd Berrier To Crew Chief For Regan Smith; Bobby Hutchens Joins JTG/Daugherty

A pre-Brickyard shakeup has resulted in personnel moves affecting two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams.

Todd Berrier, the former Richard Childress Racing crew chief who had been with JTG/Daugherty Racing and driver Bobby Labonte since the start of this season, will head to Furniture Row Racing to replace Pete Rondeau as Regan Smith’s crew chief.

To fill the void left by Berrier’s departure, JTG will use David Hyder as interim crew chief until it can publicly name a full-time crew chief (the team said it has a target but was unable to get the deal done in time). JTG also hired former Stewart-Haas Racing competition director Bobby Hutchens to fill that role with the team.

Berrier, 42, is tasked with jump-starting the disappointing season for Regan Smith. A year ago, Smith won at Darlington and Furniture Row Racing seemed on the verge of a breakthrough. Instead, Smith is only 26th in the point standings.

Labonte hasn’t been doing much better. The former Cup champion is 23rd in points with just one top-10 finish this season, and Hutchens can use his experience to get JTG more competitive.
