Grab Some Blippar: Budweiser Using App To Interact With Kevin Harvick Fans

Ever heard of Blippar? It’s a free app that allows advertisers to play in mobile augmented reality and provide content to their loyal consumers.

OK, maybe that’s a little dry. So let’s put it this way: WANT A PIC WITH KEVIN HARVICK?

Budweiser is one of the companies using Blippar, and in this case it’s to give No. 29 team fans some exclusive content when they scan the Bud 29 logo with the app.

Basically, it works like a QR code except the app recognizes the logo instead of a complex bar code. If you download Blippar on your iPhone or Android device, you can “blipp” the Bud 29 logo wherever you see it and the special content will unlock.

I tried it out with my phone and a simple Budweiser Racing notepad I’d picked up at the track:

The very instant the Blippar app recognized the Bud 29 logo on the notepad, a voice said “Gentlemen, start your engines!” and an animated version of Harvick’s car began doing donuts on my screen.

After that, a menu opened up with three options: Content about the team (like video of the car being wrapped and a 3-D rendering of the No. 29), off-the-track videos (such as Harvick pranking right-hand man Josh Jones) and a “Take your photo with Harvick” screen.

You can see that the menu is actually hovering over the spot where my notepad is sitting:

Anyway, it’s not the greatest use of your time in world history, but it is a fun app to play around with and explore the various content – especially if you’re a Harvick fan.

Oh, and by the way? I got my pic with Happy:
