Kyle Larson will make his Sprint Cup debut in two weeks at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Phoenix Racing will field its No. 51 Chevrolet for Larson on Oct. 12 at Charlotte, who also will drive for the team in the Oct. 27 race at Martinsville Speedway. Target, who will sponsor Larson full-time in 2014, also will sponsor him at Charlotte and Martinsville.

Currently a rookie in the Nationwide Series, Larson is preparing for a full-time move next season to NASCAR’s premiere division where he will replace Juan Pablo Montoya at Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.

“We are happy to have an opportunity to get Kyle in a couple of Cup races this year,” EGR co-owner Chip Ganassi said. “Those races along with an aggressive testing schedule will be invaluable in his preparation for the 2014 season.”

Larson, 21, is considered the sport’s top up-and-coming driver and has drawn comparisons to Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon. In 28 Nationwide starts this season he has 15 top 10s, including a runner-up finish last weekend at Dover International Speedway, and sits ninth in points.

“I am very excited to get behind the wheel of a Cup car in Charlotte this month,” Larson said in a statement. “I have a lot of work to do to prepare for the 2014 season and I cannot wait to get started.”
