Rockingham not included on 2014 Truck Series schedule

NASCAR has released the 2014 Truck Series schedule with one notable omission.

Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

The 2014 schedule for the Camping World Truck Series is out with a pair of familiar tracks returning, while one popular venue has been dropped.

NASCAR’s No. 3 division will return to Gateway Motorsports Park and New Hampshire Motor Speedway next season. Gateway hasn’t hosted a Truck Series race since 2010, while New Hampshire has been absent from the schedule the last two years.

Missing from the 2014 schedule is a second stop at Iowa Speedway, and most noticeably, Rockingham Speedway. Long a NASCAR mainstay, “The Rock,” which once hosted the Sprint Cup Series twice annually, has been removed as it deals with financial difficulties.

All together, the 2014 calendar will again consist of 22 races beginning with the season-opening event Feb. 21 at Daytona.

But after Daytona there are a couple of sizeable gaps in the schedule. The second race of the season won’t be held until March 29 at Martinsville, with the third race not until May 9 at Kansas.

The Truck Series will return to Eldora Speedway for the second Mudsummer Classic July 23.
