A day after leveling accusations of nepotism and calling the grandchildren of team owner Richard Childress “spoiled rich kids,” Kevin Harvick apologized Sunday.

Kevin Harvick has apologized to Richard Childress Racing for his comments following Saturday’s Truck Series.

Harvick and Ty Dillon had an on-track altercation during Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The two were battling for the second position when Dillon made contact with the back of Harvick’s truck spinning both out.
Afterward, Harvick said his decision to leave Richard Childress Racing at the end of the season after 13 years was because of Childress showing favoritism towards his grandchildren. Sunday, during an interview on Fox Sports 1 Harvick explained his comments were made in the heat of the moment.
“I hate it for everybody at RCR,” Harvick said. “You go back and look at the things that happened, and sometimes you regret the things that you say for sure. Yesterday was definitely one of them. I hate it for my guys, and everybody working on the cars.
“Obviously, when those emotional situations come about; you say things that you really don’t want to say. I just want to apologize to all of those guys, work hard today and try and do everything we can to win the race.”
Harvick’s frustration stems from losing a chance to win a race as there were just 12 laps remaining in the Kroger 200.
Dillon acknowledged post-race he did get into the back of Harvick, but took issue with Harvick running into him under caution and stopping in his pit box. Dillon was also upset with Harvick not speaking with him afterward.
“I know we wrecked, but to tear up a truck after the race and act like a punk on the track and on pit road and stop on pit road on my pit stall when my guys were coming out, that was pretty ridiculous,” Dillon said. “I’m not happy with him. And for him not to stick around, that’s pretty sad, too.”
The two have yet to talk, as Harvick thinks cooler heads should prevail.
“I think it’s best for all of us to just cool down and have a sensible conversation about things,” Harvick said. “I wish that’s what I would have done yesterday. It’s one of those situations that you don’t want to be a part of, but I don’t have anybody else to blame but myself.”
