2013 Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500: Enraged Greg Biffle confronts Jimmie Johnson

Angry about contact that damaged his car, Greg Biffle confronted Jimmie Johnson following Sunday’s NASCAR race at Martinsville Speedway.

An irate Greg Biffle issued a strong warning to Jimmie Johnson following Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway.

Johnson was in the midst of a media scrum post-race when Biffle jerked him from behind to confront the five-time champion. Biffle was upset about contact between the two that significantly damaged his rear bumper, necessitating a pit stop to make repairs that dropped him out of the top-10.

“Hey, you (expletive) ripped my rear bumper off, you (expletive),” Biffle told Johnson. “You ran into the back of me.” As the two went back-and-forth, Biffle warned Johnson: “You better watch it,” implying Johnson should be concerned about possible retaliation. Johnson is tied with Matt Kenseth for the points lead with three races remaining, while Biffle is ranked eighth overall and out of contention.

Though Biffle and Johnson did have contact, replays seem to indicate it was Dale Earnhardt Jr. who inflicted most of the damage to Biffle’s bumper, who finished ninth.

“He tore my rear bumper cover off,” Biffle told Fox Sports. “I had to come in and go to the tail-end of the longest line. He said it’s obvious he didn’t do it on purpose, but he ran into the back of my car and tore the thing off. We drove all the back to 10th from the back of the pack, and we were one of the only cars that could do that.”

Biffle would later tweet Johnson an apology.

The terse exchange capped what was a frustrating day for Johnson, who entered the day as the favorite. However, he continually struggled with track position throughout the afternoon, frequently restarting in the slower outside groove, which cost him several positions.

“That was tough to watch that inside lane march on and just not able to get down and get in a spot,” Johnson told MRN.com. “That put us back and it forced our hand to pit a little bit early and then I had to come through the pack. It just didn’t go our way. That’s how it goes.”
