James Buescher wants to one day be in NASCAR’s top division. To achieve that goal, the 2012 Camping World Truck Series champion has decided to leave the team owned by his father-in-law.
James Buescher leaving father-in-law’s team, moves full-time to Nationwide Series
The former Camping World Truck Series champion is leaving his father-in-law’s team to move full-time to the Nationwide Series with RAB Racing.

In a deal announced Friday, Buescher has signed a multiyear contract to drive for RAB Racing, where he will campaign the entire 2014 Nationwide Series. He drove last season for Turner Scott Motorsports, which is owned by his wife’s father, Steve Turner, compiling two wins and finishing third in points.
Although Turner Scott also fields multiple Nationwide cars not including part-time effort for Buescher, the 23-year-old feels the opportunity to move up to NASCAR’s No. 2 series was too much to pass up.
“Was it complicated? Yes and no,” Buescher told SiriusXM NASCAR. “It’s hard when you’re tied-in with family, but everyone knew it was coming sooner or later. Turner Scott Motorsports does not have a Sprint Cup team, and everyone knows that my ultimate goal is to be a Cup driver one day.
Buescher went on to say “everyone is fine with this decision and agrees it’s the best opportunity for me to take the next step in my career.”
No sponsorship details were revealed, but RAB will continue to race Toyota Camrys, and Buescher will work with crew chief Chris Rice.
Turner, in a team statement, wished his son-in-law well.
“I have always been supportive of James and I am very proud of everything that he has accomplished while driving for our team,” Turner said. “I am excited for James and his new opportunities, and everyone at TSM would like to wish him the best in his future endeavors.
“I will always continue to support him and cheer him on as a member of my family, but his departure from Turner Scott Motorsports does not change the passion I have for this team. I love racing and have no plans to diminish my role as a co-owner of our organization.”
