Long regarded as one of NASCAR’s most insightful and analytical drivers, it seemed a given that one day Jeff Burton would one day end up in a broadcasting booth.
NBC hires Jeff Burton as NASCAR analyst
Jeff Burton will move to the broadcast booth following the 2014 NASCAR season, serving as a full-time analyst for NBC.

So it comes as no surprise that NBC has signed Burton as an analyst, a move which was announced Tuesday night. Burton will work both in the booth on race weekends and be incorporated into auxiliary programming during the week.
NBC is taking over coverage of the second half of the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races in July 2015 from TNT and ABC/ESPN. When the network secured the rights this past summer, Burton was the first person NBC recruited.
“His insights, keen observations and many trophies have earned the respect of everyone involved with the sport,” NBC Sports executive producer Sam Flood said. “He will be an outstanding analyst, and has everyone here looking even more forward to getting started.”
Burton’s driving days aren’t quite over, however. Before he begins his role as an analyst, Burton will serve as a test driver and compete in select races for Michael Waltrip Racing in 2014 in a deal that was publicized Tuesday. The exact number of races has yet to be determined.
In a NASCAR career that spanned three decades, Burton won 21 Cup races and 27 Nationwide events. And through the years he has dabbled in broadcasting having guested as an analyst several times for ESPN and other networks.
“This is an exciting new challenge and I am thrilled to be joining the NBC Sports family,” Burton said. “I will prepare for each race as if I were driving in it, and I look forward to sharing my experience, views and insights with all the dedicated and passionate NASCAR fans.”
