Denny Hamlin airlifted after crash at Auto Club 400

Denny Hamlin was airlifted to a California hospital following a single-car, head-on crash during NASCAR’s Auto Club 400 on Sunday.

Denny Hamlin was airlifted to a hospital following a single-car crash during NASCAR’s Auto Club 400 race in California, according to USA Today’s Jeff Gluck.

NASCAR is calling the mode of transportation a precaution, as medics did not want to sit through potential traffic that would be incurred by traveling via ambulance.

Hamlin slammed into the inside wall during the final lap of the Auto Club 400, while jockeying for position with Joey Logano. Hamlin and Logano made contact, causing each driver to lose control and crash, allowing Kyle Busch to take the lead -- and win the race.

Unfortunately for Hamlin, he lost the race and slammed into the inside wall in a head-on, single-car crash.

The extent of Hamlin’s injuries are currently unknown, but if airlifting Hamlin to the hospital was truly precautionary, it’s likely that the 32-year-old racer sustained only minor injuries.

Thoughts and prayers are with Hamlin, his friends and family at this time.
