Jimmie Johnson retains first place in Sprint Cup championship standings

Jimmie Johnson maintained his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship lead with a sixth-place in the NRA 500 on Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway. He stretched his lead to nine points over Brad Keselowski who finished ninth.

With his victory on Saturday, Kyle Busch advanced to third in the standings and is now just 18 points behind Johnson. A pair of Roush-Fenway Racing teammates -- Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards round out the top-five.

The biggest gainer of the week was Martin Truex Jr. who jumped from 25th to 16th after a runner-up at Texas. Denny Hamlin dropped to 25th in the standings after missing his second-consecutive race due to injuries sustained at Auto Club Speedway.
