NASCAR Sprint Cup standings 2013: Jimmie Johnson still holds commanding lead

Jimmie Johnson won another Sprint All-Star Race. He’s well ahead in the points standings again. What’s new in NASCAR?

Jimmie Johnson came away with another win in the Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, capturing his fourth victory in the event after surging in the last segment on Saturday. While the race didn’t affect the points standings, Johnson simply added another impressive mark to his dominant 2013 campaign - and a $1 million check to his bank account.

Johnson currently has 423 points this season after winning two races and finishing in the top 10 eight times. While there’s still plenty of time left for the rest of the field to catch up, Johnson won’t be easy to match.

Carl Edwards sits in second place, trailing Johnson by 44 points. In 11 races, he has five top-five finishes and one win in Phoenix to headline his season. Matt Kenseth has three wins on the year, but he hasn’t been able to crack the top five aside from those finishes. He trails Johnson by 59 points.

Here’s the current top 10 in the Sprint Cup points standings.

1) Jimmie Johnson
2) Carl Edwards -44
3) Matt Kenseth -59
4) Dale Earnhardt Jr. -64
5) Clint Bowyer -74
6) Kasey Kahne -97
7) Brad Keselowski -97
8) Kyle Busch -98
9) Aric Almirola -106
10) Kevin Harvick -108
