World Crown 300 Postponed Due To Impending Weather

Under the heavy threat of rain, Southern Super Series officials have decided to postpone the World Crown 300 Super Late Model race originally scheduled for Thursday at Gresham Motorsports Park.

For just the second time in the 30-year history of the popular short track event, the race will have to be held on another date -- expected to be sometime in August. With forecasts calling for a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms, officials were left with no other option but to wait for a brighter day.

“Our fans and competitors are our first consideration,” Gresham track general manager Dan Elliott said. “We know that many of them travel a long distance, and their safety is our top priority.

“With impending bad weather and flood watches in effect for the rest of the week, we felt that rescheduling this race would be the best option for our participants and fans. Even though this was out of our control, we apologize for any inconvenience but safety will always be our primary concern.”

The first time the World Crown was postponed was 1985, when rain delayed that event from its original October date to early November.

Chase Elliott is the defending winner of the race, having topped an all-Georgia podium that also included Bubba Pollard and David Ragan.

The chain of storms expected to pass through the region has also canceled one other mid-week Super Late Model event, postponing the Pro All-Stars (PASS South) Series show at Anderson Motor Speedway in South Carolina.
