Weather remains sunny and dry for NASCAR Sprint Cup practice and Nationwide race today at Chicagoland Speedway. The weather concern remains Sunday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup race where rain is looking more and more likely.
NASCAR at Chicagoland Speedway 2013: Could we be racing Monday?
A strong cold front will spread showers and storms across Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, will this force NASCAR to have a Monday race?
Cold front will work into northern Illinois early Sunday morning and push across the state during the day. There is plenty of moisture so a steady rain, with occasional thunderstorms are likely from around 9 a.m. CDT (10 a.m. EDT) to about 10 p.m. CDT (11 p.m.. Given the current forecast and model trends for Sunday, the odds of getting a race in is now between 30 to 40 percent.
Chicagoland Speedway has lights, but racing Sunday will come down to when the rain comes to an end and if they can get the track dry by a reasonable time to start the race. If the rain ends by 7 p.m. CDT (8 p.m. EDT) then they could get the race started and probably finished. If the rain is stubborn and doesn’t clear out until 10 p.m. CDT then you are probably looking at a Monday race.
If the race is postponed until Monday the weather forecast is sunny and very cool with highs in the mid to upper 60s.
