Around 2 p.m. EDT the first round of heavy rain made its way over Chicagoland Speedway, the location of today’s Sprint Cup race. Between that rain and an approaching cold front there is some rain free area on radar. Unfortunately I don’t expect that entire time to be dry. The concern is light rain and the possibility of drizzle. It is going to be hard to see any light drizzle today because of the local National Weather Service Doppler radar being down for maintenance.
NASCAR at Chicagoland Speedway 2013 weather forecast update: Can we race tonight?
Rain is moving through northern Illinois this afternoon. Cold front will arrive sometime late afternoon and early evening. Will this give NASCAR enough to dry and race later tonight?
Cold front is still anticipated to move over Chicagoland Speedway between 5 and 7 p.m. EDT (4 and 6 p.m. CDT) this will put down another 30 minute to an hour of heavy rain. Once that rain passes we are dry the rest of the evening. Early I thought we had a 40% chance of racing tonight, I am going to improve that based on the timing of the cold front. I think there is now a 50-60% chance we race tonight.
