Tim Bryant explains rule changes to Southern Super Series

Tim Bryant is excited to see how recent rule changes affect the second-year tour.

Tim Bryant is the race promoter at both Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway -- and one of the founding members of the Southern Super Series.

On a Saturday radio spot with Derek Kane Long, Bryant says he is proud of what the tour has been able to accomplish in one year, crowning Daniel Hemric as the inaugural champion and adding yet another prestigious race to the schedule -- the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway.

Ultimately, Bryant told Long he is just happy being a part of it all.

"I'm just one of the many different arms in this deal," Bryant said. "We have great promoters that came together and decided to work together, get a common rules package for the Super Late Models so that guys can travel to other tracks."

Thus the Super Series was born between Pensacola, Mobile, Gresham Motorsports Park, Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and Montgomery Motor Speedway. But the sophomore schedule was missing expansion, something that was rectified last week when the Rattler's promoter John Dykes reached out to join the tour.

"After a year we made some strides and it was great," Bryant added. "I am genuinely surpised to see how it has grown. We go to all the great southern venues and events like the World Crown 300, Alabama 200 and ending with the All-American 400. That's what gave the series legs."

Bryant was part of the competition committee that recently announced rule changes for the 2014 season, which includes limited live pit stops and no mandated halfway break with changes.

Bryant says the changes will increase excitement this season.

"We had the 125 laps last year and eliminated the mandatory cauton where you have to make your changes then. We're still a six-tire race but you can do it before or after the break. We want to put more power on the hands of the guys on the pit box to try to allow teams to turn a sixth place car into a race winner."

Under any caution teams can make changes on pit road, the order out of the stop-and-go will be where they restart behind those who did not pit.

The results, Bryant and the Tour hopes, is continued increased interest and excitement in the coming years.
