NASCAR reinstates suspended crew chief Todd Parrott

NASCAR has lifted Todd Parrott’s suspension after the championship-winning crew chief completed the Road to Recovery program.

Less than three months after violating NASCAR’s substance abuse policy, crew chief Todd Parrott was reinstated Tuesday.

Most recently the crew chief for Aric Almirola’s No. 43 team at Richard Petty Motorsports, Parrott was suspended indefinitely Oct. 17 for failing a random drug test. Having completed a NASCAR-mandated counseling and treatment program, Parrott, 49, is allowed to return immediately.

RPM fired Parrott shortly after his suspension, citing its “zero tolerance policy.” They have since hired Trent Owens as crew chief for Almirola’s No. 43 car. In an October interview on Motor Racing Network’s “NASCAR Live,” Parrott refused to say which substance he took to cause his suspension, but he admitted that he made a mistake and vowed to return.

“I’m going to get the problem fixed and make sure that something like this never happens again,” Parrott told host Eli Gold. “I love this sport. I want to get back in this sport and work with my friends in the garage area.”

Parrott has won 31 races as crew chief and is best-known for leading Dale Jarrett to the 1999 Cup championship along with a pair of victories in the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400.
