Danica Patrick, pole-sitter Austin Dillon and several other drivers were collected in an an accident in lap 145 of the Daytona 500 on Sunday. Midway-leader Paul Menard, Kasey Kahne and eight other drivers were also caught in the wreck.

A large wreck on lap 145 sent several drivers the the garage with an early end to their race.


Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads with 50 laps to go, followed by Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards.
Kevin Harvick appeared to get a little loose and hit Brian Scott’s car, sending Arik Almirola into the wall:
Patrick got hit by the No. 43 of Almirola and then shot across the track into the wall:
Dillon had been driving the No. 3 car made famous by Dale Earnhardt. Car owner Richard Childress brought the number back after a 13-year absence and his grandson, Dillon, drove the car onto the pole last week. His team was able to make repairs to stay in the race. Patrick, Waltrip, Almirola, Menard and Gilliland remain in the garage.
A number of drivers were already out of the race, including Martin Truex Jr, who qualified on the outside pole before being wrecked in the second of the Budweiser Duel heats on Thursday. He blew an engine early in the race. Clint Bowyer, who was caught in that same accident and actually went airborne and flipped over, also had engine problems. Tony Stewart was sent to the garage with engine troubles as well and trails by 27 laps now that he’s back on the track.
