NASCAR at Phoenix 2014 race day weather: Finally a dry forecast

Dear rain on race day, goodbye and good riddance. I think that sums it up for nearly all the NASCAR fans out there. I say nearly because I have actually had NASCAR fans on Twitter disappointed that Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway is going to be dry. Why are they upset? Honestly, I didn’t want to know but this meteorologist and NASCAR fan is very happy about the dry forecast after last week’s Daytona 500 and yesterday’s Nationwide race that was called due to rain.

SUNDAY’S WEATHER FORECAST:
The morning could feature cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with a spot shower or two across the region. I feel pretty confident that most all of the rain will be out of the area by daybreak. Green flag is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. MT (3:15 p.m. ET), by then the cloud cover will clear and become partly to mostly sunny, temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70 with a south-southeasterly wind between 5 and 10 mph.
