2014 NASCAR at Martinsville Speedway weather forecast: Wet weather ahead

Cold front and a storm system this weekend means wet weather for Martinsville Speedway this weekend.

Martinsville Speedway in the spring means you can experience every single season in one week and that is exactly what happened in Martinsville and southern Virginia this week. Now that NASCAR is in town and back east this weekend, it means we will once again have to deal with rain.

Cold front will push across the region on Friday, this will produce areas of scattered showers during the morning with more numerous showers into the afternoon. The front then stalls across the region Friday night into Saturday allowing the next system to ride along the stalled front like a train on a track through southern Virginia.

As the system moves across the region and Martinsville Speedway on Saturday more showers and even a few thunderstorms are possible through the morning and afternoon. Saturday looks like the wettest day of the whole weekend. The rain showers will continue in the evening on Saturday and into early Sunday morning.

As the storm system exits to the north-northeast on Sunday, there could be some lingering showers and drizzle during the early morning but will give way to mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. I see no issues getting the Sprint Cup race in on Sunday. I am concerned about practice and qualifying on Friday and Saturday. There might be breaks on Friday but Saturday looks awfully wet.
