2014 NASCAR at Martinsville Speedway weather forecast: Wet Saturday, drier Sunday

With numerous rain showers expected Saturday, will NASCAR see any race activity and what about Sunday?

While rain caused a few delays on Friday for NASCAR, looks like rain will be a bigger problem today at Martinsville Speedway. Storm system will move across Virginia spreading showers and even thunderstorms across southern Virginia, including Martinsville Speedway. While the forecast looks wet, there could be small but possible windows for Sprint Cup practice and Truck qualifying and maybe the race in the afternoon. I am not overly optimistic but the last couple of forecast where I thought the day was wet (Phoenix and Bristol) there were long enough windows where on track activities were able to be completed, so I am not ruling them out.

CAN THE SPRINT CUP TEAMS PRACTICE TODAY? While it will be a challenge dodging rain showers and possible storms, with a long enough window and Air Titan 2.0 it is possible.

WILL THE CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES RACE GET IN THIS AFTERNOON? This is a lot harder because of the amount of time needed to run a full race. With a well timed break in the rain that’s long enough to dry the track, the race could start (maybe not on time) and possibly get to half way, but a full race seems doubtful. Also, I would anticipate weather delays as well. Forecast for the truck race, be ready for rain.

WILL THE RAIN CONTINUE INTO SUNDAY? Clouds and a few light showers and drizzle are possible in the morning but it is expected to clear out and give way to afternoon sunshine. It will be cooler as afternoon temperatures struggle to reach 60 degrees. Winds will also be very gusty out of the northwest gusting to near 30 mph.
