Chip Ganassi Racing has signed 18-year-old Dylan Kwasniewski as a development driver. The team announced the move prior to Sunday’s Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kwasniewski’s home track.

Nationwide Series rookie Dylan Kwasniewski is now a developmental driver for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Currently in his rookie season in the Nationwide Series, Kwasniewski won the 2012 K&N Pro Series West championship and the 2013 K&N Pro Series East championship. But don’t expect the teenager to immediately advance to NASCAR’s premiere division, as Chip Ganassi said Kwasniewski is at least two, maybe three years away.
“This young man has impressed us from the moment we saw him,” Ganassi said. “His poise, skill and determination on the race track are remarkable for someone so young. I am really looking forward to seeing him grow as a driver with each increase of competition. I think Dylan has a big future ahead of him in NASCAR.”
The move does gives CGR a promising lineup, as the organization also fields a Cup car for 21-year-old Kyle Larson, who has drawn comparisons to Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. And despite the addition of Kwasniewski, Ganassi stated the future of veteran Jamie McMurray is secure.
