Tony Stewart’s customized scooter sells for $22,500 at Barrett-Jackson auction
The custom scooter Tony Stewart used while recovering from a broken leg was sold Thursday, with the proceeds being donated to charity.

The proceeds collected will be donated to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation, which provides support for people living with paralysis. Stewart said in February the winning bid would also receive airfare, tickets, garage passes and lodging to the July Sprint Cup race at Daytona International Speedway.

As a means to navigate the garage, Stewart debuted the scooter last September at Richmond International Raceway in his first appearance at the track since breaking his right leg Aug. 5 in a sprint car crash. The scooter is painted like his No. 14 Sprint Cup car, adorned with custom decals and big-fitting wheels.
“We thought long and hard about what we should do with the scooter when we were finished with it,” Stewart said in February. “After working with Darrell Gwynn and his foundation for so many years, I know there are a lot of people who aren’t as fortunate, and that a scooter is a way of life.
“The scooter I used after my accident is top of the line, and it will serve someone very well. I want it to go to a deserving person, but I also want it to help others.”
