A fight between Marcos Ambrose and Casey Mears erupted in the garage in the aftermath of Saturday night’s wild NASCAR race at Richmond International Raceway.

Mears approached Ambrose in the garage in footage aired by Fox, and following a brief discussion Mears shoved Ambrose. Ambrose responded by throwing a right cross that connected with Mears’ face. The punch appeared to daze Mears, who immediately grabbed his face but did not receive medical attention, according to multiple reports.

What prompted the exchange is unclear. Ambrose finished 18th, with Mears 19th.

NASCAR said it was reviewing the incident and would not determine any potential penalties until Monday or Tuesday.

“It doesn’t seem to be much,” said NASCAR Vice President for Competition Robin Pemberton. “We don’t think it was anything too severe. We’ll get all the footage that we can and look at it and see what happens from there.”

Joey Logano won the Toyota Owners 400 in a spirited battle featuring Matt Kenseth, Brad Keselowski and Jeff Gordon.
