NASCAR Texas 2014: Heavy rain delays start of Duck Commander 500

Rain has delayed Sunday’s NASCAR race indefinitely.

Patrick Smith

UPDATE: Start Delayed

Originally slated to begin at 3:16 p.m. ET, the Duck Commander 500 is in an indefinite delay, as heavy rain has pushed back the start of Sunday’s NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The forecast shows an 80 percent chance of rain throughout the afternoon before tapering off in the early to mid evening. Because TMS has lights, NASCAR can elect to run the race Sunday night, but if showers persist officials will likely reschedule for Monday.

If the race is Monday it will be the same day as the NCAA men’s basketball championship game, which is being held 30 miles away at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Texas’ annual spring date is traditionally held on Saturday night, but to avoid a conflict with the Final Four the race was moved to Sunday.

For up to date weather information follow Brian Neudorff (@NASCAR_WXMAN) on Twitter. He has a video update below, and estimates the chance of racing Sunday night at 50/50.
