Dale Earnhardt Jr. doesn’t know he’s engaged

Contrary to what The National Enquirer says, Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn’t getting married anytime soon.

Don’t believe everything you read in The National Enquirer was the warning Dale Earnhardt Jr. issued Friday at Talladega Superspeedway.

The always reputable and usually accurate tabloid is reporting Earnhardt is not just engaged to longtime girlfriend Amy Reimann, but the two would tie the knot in an elaborate ceremony to be held at Daytona International Speedway.

The “wedding” supposedly will occur at the end of the year and cost upwards of $2 million, according to The National Enquirer. And what exactly does the happy couple get for that lump sum? A menu of steak and lobster, along with ribs and brisket cooked by the chefs of the television show “BBQ Pitmasters, of which Earnhardt, a noted foodie, is a big fan.

As for entertainment for the lavish bash, Earnhardt won’t be hiring some random DJ or a local band? No, he plans to recruit “Sheryl Crow, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn and Kenny Chesney,” according to The National Enquirer’s trusted “sources.”

“So we just skipped the engagement I guess, went right to the wedding,” said a joking Earnhardt when asked about his impending nuptials. “I definitely would have a hard time writing that check.”

(Editor’s note: Earnhardt and Reimann are not engaged, and if they are it’s the best kept secret in NASCAR.)
