NASCAR at Kansas Speedway 2014: Rain returns this weekend

Threat of rain has returned for another NASCAR weekend, but when will it rain at Kansas Speedway? The unofficial NASCAR weatherman Brian Neudorff looks at this weekend’s forecast.

After a rain free weekend at Talladega for NASCAR, the threat of rain and storm returns for Kansas Speedway. While the threat of rain is in the forecast most of the time at the track will be dry.

Weather forecast for today’s Sprint Cup practice and qualifying as well as Camping World Truck qualifying and race look great. Afternoon temperatures will reach the 70s with race temperatures tonight in the 60s.

The main weather concern this weekend is Saturday afternoon into the evening. The forecast data the last couple of days has been inconsistent when it comes to Saturday night and the most recent data I’ve looked at still has a difference scenario. I think we can and will race Saturday night for the Sprint Cup race. In my professional opinion, right now we get all if not most of the race completed. I’d give the odds of a complete race around 75 to 80 percent.

Unfortunately with the inconsistency in the forecast data the last couple of days, I expect some changes before now and Saturday night. I feel confident that we race Saturday night but keeping the threat of showers and storms in my official forecast for now. The fan in me hopes the trend of pushing the rain more into Sunday continues as we get closer to Saturday night.
