Dale Earnhardt Jr. shares story of first speeding ticket
A fight with his father preceded Dale Earnhardt Jr. getting his first-ever speeding ticket.

Earnhardt shared the story Tuesday during an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, where he recalled that he received his first citation as a 16-year-old. It just so happened to occur as Earnhardt was on his way home from the family farm where he had just gotten into an argument with his father, who was driving close behind.
When Dale Earnhardt saw his son pulled over he didn’t stop to offer assistance. Instead, the seven-time NASCAR champion drove past to a gas station up ahead where he waited for his son.
“He says ‘Did he write you a ticket?’” Earnhardt Jr. told Patrick. “I said ‘Yeah.’ He says, ‘It looks like you need to get a job.’ So I went down to a gas station up the road from the house and applied for a job there. Pumped gas for several months to pay for that ticket.”
