NASCAR Nationwide Series at Kentucky Speedway results: Harvick holds off Keselowski, wins shootout

Kevin Harvick capitalized on a Brad Keselowski penalty to win the Nationwide Series race at Kentucky.

For much of Friday’s Nationwide Series race Brad Keselowski had the dominant car, but when it mattered most it was Kevin Harvick who was faster at Kentucky Speedway.

Shortly after the final restart of the night Harvick passed leader Kyle Busch, while Keselowski charged to the front in a vain attempt to overcome a pit road speeding penalty. Harvick proceeded to pull away as Keselowski could only get to second. Busch finished third.

The win was Harvick’s second victory of the season.

Starting on the pole, Keselowski wasted little time asserting his dominance, leading 138-of-148 laps. But a speeding infraction 52 laps from the finish and the subsequent one-lap penalty prevented Keselowski from winning his second Nationwide race of 2014.

Rounding out the top-five finishers were Paul Menard and Ryan Blaney. Brendan Gaughan, who won last week at Road America, placed sixth followed by Ty Dillon, Brian Scott, Kyle Larson and Elliott Sadler in positions seven through 10.

Sadler assumed the points lead from Regan Smith, who was involved in an incident with Ryan Reed on Lap 170. Smith finished 28th and fell to third in the standings. Rookie Chase Elliott finished 12th and moved to second overall, four points behind Sadler.
