For the fifth consecutive week, a qualifying record has been broken. Significantly closer to Kevin Harvick’s record of 204.557 mph at Michigan International from two weeks ago than Jamie McMurray’s 96.350 mph on Sonoma’s road course, Brad Keselowski whipped around the curves at Kentucky Speedway at 188.791 mph to grab his third pole of the season.

Can Brad Keselowski be the first to turn pole position into a win at Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400?

Keselowski was one of 23 drivers to break the record established just over a year ago, something that surprised the 2012 Sprint Cup champion. “I thought we were all going to be a lot slower, so I was a little bit surprised by the speeds that were ran,” Keselowski told the AP. “But (crew chief) Paul (Wolfe) did a good job working on and adjusting the car and getting it to where I wanted it and they hit what I wanted.”
He’ll be joined in the front row by his Penske Racing teammate, Joey Logano, something the pair has already done three times this season. The dominance of the Penske team hasn’t gone unnoticed, but Logano is quick to deflect praise for the duo’s dominance to the cars and their crew. “I wouldn’t say we’re destroying them, I think a lot of it is in the cars, to be honest with you, I feel like our cars have just been fast.”
Those fast cars have led Logano to two wins so far this season, but he still trails the man who will be starting behind him -- Jeff Gordon -- in points. Gordon leads the circuit with 580 points through 16 races so far this season. Denny Hamlin, Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson round out the first three rows.
