Matt Kenseth, sponsor Dollar General extend contracts with Joe Gibbs Racing

Joe Gibbs Racing announces contract extensions with Matt Kenseth and Dollar General.

Matt Kenseth and sponsor Dollar General have signed contract extensions with Joe Gibbs Racing, the team announced Saturday at Kentucky Speedway.

Team officials would not disclose the exact length of the extension for Kenseth, only saying it was “multi-year.” Kenseth joined JGR in 2013 after 13 seasons with Roush Fenway Racing and took the No. 20 JGR car to Victory Lane seven times and finished runner-up in the championship.

“It’s obviously been a great fit for me,” Kenseth said. “I was so excited when I came to (JGR). ... I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the whole (Dollar General) group. It makes it extra fun when their CEO is such a huge race fan and such a great guy as well.”

Dollar General will up its primary sponsorship of the No. 20 car from 27 races this season to 30 in 2014, with six races remaining unaccounted. Longtime sponsor Home Depot is ending its association with JGR at the conclusion of the season, according to a report from Sports Business Journal earlier in the week.

Team principle Joe Gibbs said the organization knows who will replace Home Depot and sponsor the remainder of the schedule, but would reveal the news at a later date.

“We know who that (sponsor) would be, but we can’t announce it,” Gibbs said. “But we have a good partner for Dollar General.”
