The weather forecast for today’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a complicated one. The best chance for scattered areas of showers and storms is going to be during the morning hours, then by noon the threat of showers and storms starts to push to the east of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
2014 NASCAR Brickyard 400 race day weather forecast: Chance of pop-up storms
While the main threat of rain and storms has passed to the east off Indianapolis, isolated to scattered storms could still impact today’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

WILL NASCAR BE ABLE TO RACE TODAY? I am sticking with my original forecast and say yes, NASCAR will be able to race this afternoon and should be able to get an official race if not a totally complete race in when all is said and done. The odds of racing have remained around 75 percent all week.
YOU SAID OFFICIAL RACE, BUT CAN THEY GET A COMPLETE RACE? Over all I think the odds of a complete race are around the same percentage of 75 percent. This afternoon, if we see any rain over Indianapolis Motor Speedway it will come in the form of isolated to scattered storms that form in the heat of the day. The race could go on and be total rain free or just one or two storms move right over the track and can completely change the course and plans of the entire afternoon. These are the forecast I dislike because you can never be truly specific on what the weather is going to do. All a meteorologist can do is say, rain will form near or in the area of the track (give or take 50 miles) and we could be dry or we could see a storm, we don’t know until they start to form on radar. Bottom line, yes the odds are in favor of a complete race but that doesn’t mean there won’t be delays or possible problems from rain later today.
I’m confident we will see racing today and won’t need to reschedule this race for Monday. With that said, I am not confident in saying it will be a rain free race. There is enough data showing a storm or two could form near the track later today that it needs mentioning and monitoring.
