Martin Truex Jr. will miss all on-track activities Friday at Michigan International Speedway to be with longtime girlfriend Sherry Pollex, who will undergo surgery for ovarian cancer.

“Sherry and Martin would like to thank the NASCAR community for all the well wishes,” said a statement released Wednesday. “They have requested that everyone respect the family’s privacy as Sherry begins her treatment and recovery.”

Furniture Row Racing has tabbed Matt Crafton, the defending Camping World Truck Series champion, to practice and qualify Truex’s No. 78 car. Truex will rejoin the team for practice Saturday and race in Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400.

“Everyone at Furniture Row Racing extends their thoughts and prayers to Sherry during her treatment and recovery period,” said FRR general manager Joe Garone in a team release. “She is a devoted supporter of our race team and we can’t wait for her return to the track.”

Truex is 26th in points with a best finish of sixth this season.
