NASCAR at Michigan 2014 weather forecast: Some storms could threaten

There’s a chance of rain in this weekend’s weather forecast for NASCAR at Michigan International Speedway. How could any rain showers or storms impact this weekend’s race activities?

I know seeing the mention of rain in a NASCAR weekend weather forecast is getting a little old and tiresome. While rain may be in the forecast this weekend at Michigan International Speedway, its potential impact appears to be small.

A weak system works across lower Michigan late Saturday afternoon into the evening and overnight. It appears that the best chance for rain and storms this weekend is when there’s no racing scheduled on the track. By Sunday morning, this system moves out and leaves behind just a small chance of an isolated pop up shower or storm Sunday afternoon.

I’d say the odds of racing this weekend and seeing complete races at Michigan International Speedway to be between 75 to 80 percent. While it only takes one of these storms to pop up near or over the track to cause delays, I don’t anticipate any delay to be very long and that is if we see one in the first place.

Most of the time this weekend should be dry but I will monitor the radar for possible showers and storms.
